What must I do to be saved?

What must I do to be saved?Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. That is it. That is all it takes.Acts 16:30 – 31 - Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”In helping to answer the question – Who do you say that I am? Peter answered – you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Here, the Philippian jailer is asking a similar question upon the release of Paul and Silas from jail by a divine event/occurrence. He has received an awakening by the Spirit of the Lord – and in asking this question, he has allowed himself to be open to the answer – Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household (household being saved different topic.)According to FF Bruce, page 274 – “In Acts, as in the Gospels, faith is regularly emphasized as a condition of receiving both physical and spiritual healing.” See Mark 5:34 – Jesus in saying to the woman who had a bleeding disorder for 12 years – “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”It hearkens back to Nicodemus asking the question in John 3 – In verse 15 - The Lord answers to him that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. John 3:16 – For God so loved the world he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life…and he was sent into the world to save the world … not to condemn the world v. 17. And in verse 18 – whoever believes in him is not condemned; and verse 36 – whoever believes in the son has eternal life. Also, in Luke 18:18, when the Rich Young Ruler asks – what must I do to inherit eternal life? – Jesus in essence states, sell all you have and get your priorities straight, and follow me. Believing in what the Lord has to offer, you put him first in your life, and follow. In Acts 16 – the slave girl who was possessed by a demon and was a fortune teller gets it right and tells everyone – in verse 17 – these men, Paul and Silas are here to proclaim to you the way of salvation. And Paul and Silas are imprisoned by the owners of this girl as they have lost their livelihood. Similar to the Rich Young Ruler – he has not re-arranged his priorities to sell his worldly possession for spiritual survival, and with these fortune tellers (owners) they were more concerned with their livelihood, they were perturbed and missed the opportunity to hear and be saved if they would choose to follow. JB Phillips - 30 He led them outside, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”31 And they replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and then you will be saved, you and your household.”
